Most Big Ten Football Championships
December 7, 2008
While the Big 12 and other current power conferences are teenagers or younger, the Big Ten has been around since the stone age. Wisconsin earned the league’s first football championship way back in 1896, and folks from the Midwest have been bickering and arguing about who’s No. 1 ever since.
Who has earned bragging rights the most times?
Here’s a list of most Big Ten football champions, allowing for years which ended in ties:
Michigan — 42
Ohio State — 32
Minnesota — 18
Illinois — 15
Iowa — 11
Wisconsin — 11
Northwestern — 8
Purdue — 8
Chicago — 7
Michigan State — 6
Penn State — 3
Indiana — 2
