Coaches with most NCAA appearances
March 15, 2009
Before you can start dreaming about the Final Four, you first have to have your name come up on Selection Sunday. While many a coach has maneuvered his team into the field without having much success once he gets there, an invitation to the Big Dance still goes for something.
Which coaches have received the call most often?
Here’s a list that includes some pretty good company:
28 — Bob Knight (Indiana and Texas Tech)
27 — Lute Olson (Iowa and Arizona)
27 — Dean Smith (North Carolina)
26 — Jim Boeheim (Syracuse)
25 — Eddie Sutton (Creighton, Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma State)
25 — Mike Krzyzewski (Duke)
23 — Denny Crum (Louisville)
20 — Adolph Rupp (Kentucky)
20 — John Thompson (Georgetown)
20 — Jim Calhoun (Northeastern and Connecticut)
20 — Roy Williams (Kansas and North Carolina)
19 — Lou Henson (Illinois and New Mexico State)
