U.S. Olympic Diving Team
July 1, 2008
America is sending 12 men and women to the Olympic diving competition in Beijing. The list of qualifiers includes veterans and newcomers, including several teenagers. This is the first time since 1996 the U.S. diving team will have maximum participation, according to USA Diving.
Diving in the Olympics began almost a century ago and the format remained essentially unchanged until the 2000 Games in Sydney, when synchronized diving was added to the competition. The 10-meter divers (like Laura Wilkinson, pictured) dive from a platform, while the 3-meter divers dive from a springboard.

Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill.) – 3 meter
Ariel Rittenhouse (Santa Cruz, Calif.) – synchronized 3 meter
Laura Wilkinson (Spring, Texas) – 10 meter
Mary Beth Dunnichay (Ellwood, Ind.) – synchronized 10 meter
Nancilea Underwood Foster (Conroe, Texas) – 3 meter
