Actors jinxed by Oscar

Catherine Zeta-Jones seemed headed for the heights after her 2002 Oscar-winning Chicago turn. She was cast in two can’t-miss movies that somehow missed: opposite George Clooney in the Coen Brothers’ Intolerable Cruelty and opposite Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal. Neither was a flop, but neither hit the major leagues. More recently, she was to star in two projects that have been shelved. She signed on as Lana Turner in a movie about the scandal of Lana’s daughter allegedly killing Lana’s gangster lover. That film was announced three years ago, and the online IMDb mysteriously classifies it as “rumored to be in production.” She was also to star as the Queen of the Nile in Steven Soderbergh’s rock musical about Cleopatra (yes, that’s right). When the movie’s Mark Antony, Hugh Jackman, claimed scheduling conflicts, plans were put in limbo. Encouraging note: Zeta-Jones’ striking beauty is the kind that ages gracefully, so a substantial career is still possible.

Beautiful!! You named the great big elephant that resides in the corner of the room – right next to the Oscar statuette – so very well!

I’ve often thought that winning that award was much more curse – than blessing!
